March: A Month of Rowing Races

March: A Month of Rowing Races

Don’t miss out on the buzz this month in the world-wide rowing community, as races take place across the globe.  Supporting your athletes during the racing season is a key factor to successful coaching and creating a progressive atmosphere in your club.  You can encourage athletes to progress their skills and knowledge before they go into a race as a novice.  Following current and previous races make for an excellent learning tool in preparing for your own competitive athletic endeavors.

This page on the World Rowing website offers an extensive collection of written material for coaches, athletes or boat club managers.  From a review of rowing technology, to key performance indicators of rowing and coaching manuals – expand your knowledge base and share it around your rowing club.

Over in the northern hemisphere, The Head of the River Race is being held on March 23, though unsuitable weather conditions may delay it.  Check this website after 11am Friday to see if the race has been delayed. If you’re a coach or coxswain, connect with Rebecca Dowbiggin in this interview, who coxed Cambridge to a win in the 2007 Boat Race – she gives advice for any coxswains attempting the challenge.

Enjoy the races this month, and best of luck!
