  • River safety guide and map: rivers can be perilous, especially when occupied by other people, inexperienced boats and immobile objects. Educate your club members on the perils and safe areas of the river you row on with a detailed map diagram and circulation rules.
  • Club & safety contacts poster: a contact sheet for your club with phone numbers, addresses and emails. Emergency contacts help to keep people level headed in difficult situations, club contacts could came in handy if equipment is broken or you need advice about weather conditions. A contact sheet keeps your club connected, it\’s as simple as that.
  • Safety equipment checklist: make sure everyone knows the safety equipment they should have on the water at any given time, such as boat lights at dawn and dusk.  Putting a checklist inside motor launches or in front of the bay doors helps athletes and coaches to remember to check they have the necessary items before they hit the water.
  • First aid and emergency instructions: first aid has always been at the forefront of safety for any sport, so why not improve training and knowledge of first aid while also pointing out where equipment is in your boathouse? You can find many pamphlets and posters online (such as the one linked to this point just above) which can be placed around your boathouse to help those in need. Also include instructions for how to locate first aid gear in case a visitor is unfamiliar with your space.
  • Cleaning and care for equipment: a Row2k hack for maintaining your equipment and building safety is to store cleaning products next to (or attached to/ on top of) the equipment they\’re associated with cleaning. This encourages disciplined cleaning when it gets taken out and put back because of how noticeable and accessible the detergent and sponges are.
